Top 10 Reasons To Try Fernwood Fitness

(This Post is a partnership with Fernwood Fitness.)

A month ago I was invited to try out a Fernwood Fitness health club of my choice to experience all that Fernwood has to offer and to see if I like it.

I jumped at the chance because I have never experienced a female-only gym environment and had heard only good things about Fernwood Fitness.

A month on, here are my top 10 reasons to try Fernwood Fitness. And yes, I definitely do like it!

1. Fernwood Fitness empowers women to shine.

I started looking into Fernwood Fitness just to make sure it was something that gelled with me. I was absolutely THRILLED to see that our mission and our values were very much in alignment. In fact, Fernwood’s purpose is simple… they exist to empower women to shine. And their goal is to give women the confidence they need to succeed in all they do. How good is that?

And if you know me? I am all about us single mums living our best life, getting empowered as the amazing women that we are, and being all that we can be. Regardless of being single parents. So I was pretty excited to check Fernwood out.

2. Starting is easy, and not at all daunting.

Starting at a new gym can be daunting. Especially if you haven’t exercised in a while. But at Fernwood? There is actually no need to worry at all. One of my favourite things about Fernwood is that it is a very supportive, non-intimidating environment. All the women that I see whenever I go are just normal women of all shapes and sizes – just like you and me. So straight up, I already felt like I fit right in.

3. You get the support of a Fitness Coach and they will help you set your health and wellness goals.

All new members are invited (and encouraged) to meet with a Fitness Coach on their first visit. They will help you set some really solid goals and create an action plan for you to work towards during your first 28 days.

So I met up with my personal trainer on my first visit. We did a bunch of tests and discussed my health and wellness goals. For me? As someone who has suffered from anxiety and depression in the past, exercise helps me to maintain my mental health. Exercise makes me happy and makes me feel healthy. It’s about moving my body, getting those endorphins flowing, and feeling good. Even now, when my daughter is away with her dad my anxiety often rears its ugly head and I know that one way I can get through it is by exercising. Every day.

And just like that Day 1 of Term 4 is over, which means that the year is coming to an end and my babe has almost finished her first year of school ? #slowdown ? But Day 1 of Term 4 also means that I have about 10 weeks to kick some serious #fitnessgoals ? Luckily, this month @fernwoodfitness have invited me to try out the gym #fernwoodbroadway and are helping me to achieve them ??

Today I had an initial assessment to see where I stand and what my fitness goals are. You know that – for me? Exercise is ALL about mental health. I’m feeling a little sluggish lately #mumlife and so my main fitness goal is to feel more energetic and active #selfcare. I have to admit though, today when I had some measurements taken, I was a little surprised. The results have definitely given me the motivation I need to kick start my goals. So far I really like @fernwoodfitnessbroadway and I think I’ll definitely be well supported to reach my goals there. Female only facilities, super lovely and helpful staff, a members lounge with free breakfast and WiFi, personal trainers, meal plans, full support, group training and classes, and lots and lots of pink #myfavouritecolour. What else does a girl need?

So tell me, what’s your favourite exercise? And do you have any fitness goals as the year comes to an end?

It’s also about self-care and me-time. As single mums, we do not get a lot of time to ourselves. Especially those of us who have the majority of care for the kids. So for me, exercising is one hour of the day that I can purely do something for myself that makes ME feel good and happy!

If I’m not doing a class or working with my PT, I pop my headphones in, and listen to a podcast that I love – Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations anyone? – and enjoy the time working out and doing something for me. Because as soon as I get out of there? Life is back on!

4. You’ll receive the online 28 Day Breakthru as part of your membership.

On my first visit, my PT also helped set up my 28 Day Breakthru Program. This is Fernwood’s 28-day online exercise, nutrition, and mindset program which is designed to help kick-start healthier habits. It includes daily workouts and inspiration, full meal plans, healthy recipes, and mindset sessions. All new members receive the 28-Day Breakthru as part of the New Member Experience upon joining. For me, this made my meal planning and shopping very easy, especially as it was customised for me and my diet #pescatarian.

5. A female-only environment.

Having never visited a female-only gym in the past, I wasn’t sure how I would feel about it. But I have found the women-only environment quite refreshing. It’s not threatening, not intimidating, and as I mentioned earlier, lovely to be around women of all shapes and sizes.

6. They have everything you need.

Fernwood Fitness has everything you can possibly want – starting from the lovely staff who greet you when you arrive, to the chilled wet scented towels they provide for you post work out (my FAVOURITE). The facilities are lovely (I have visited two so far) and there is a great selection of workout apparatus and machines. They also offer a great selection of classes – from HIIT to yoga, to Zumba, to Sprint, and everything in between.

7. You can work with a Personal Trainer.

Working with a PT is a great option. Especially if you are new to the whole gym thing or want a reboot of your current exercise routine. I have loved it because I love to mix things up and try new things. I never know what to expect when I meet with my PT Laurice, and she always challenges me. And I also have a couple of great programs now that Laurice has developed for me that I can do by myself and that I know to push me.

8. They have a crèche.

If you’re a single mum with a child under five, chances are you may need a gym with a crèche. Many of the clubs offer this facility and service to their members.

9. Free breakfast.

Another perk is the free breakfast that Fernwood Fitness supplies to all its members. Whether it’s cereal, toast, fruit, or even a coffee or a tea… And the best part? It’s available for free… ALL DAY.

The feeling you get when you finish a workout ??? ? Last week was a rough week ? I was not at my best. I missed an early morning event #SleptThroughAlarm, and I stuffed my calendar up and missed two other appointments. Pretty much everyone I know commented on how tired I looked. And I was. I was not on the ball. On Saturday morning I reached out to a few good friends of mine and said: I feel like I’m drowning. I’m completely overwhelmed and I can’t catch my breath.

According to the ABS, 1 in 5 Australians experience a mental health condition in a given year and almost 1 in 2 will experience a mental health condition at some point in their lifetime. Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia. On average, 1 in 3 women and will experience anxiety, and around 1 in 6 women will experience some level of depression.

As someone who has previously suffered from anxiety and depression, in the past, this could have spiraled me down to a really bad place. But over the last 10 years, I’ve implemented strategies to maintain my mental health and overall level of happiness, and one of them is exercise! For me, it’s crucial! Which is why I am SO happy to tell you about my gym @fernwoodfitness and their charity – the Fernwood Foundation which supports women with anxiety and depression.

In November you can buy a 10-day trial for just $10. And the best part? 100% of the proceeds go to the Fernwood Foundation. So you’ll be able to try your local Fernwood Health Club (with all the usual member perks) whilst supporting women with anxiety and depression. Did I mention that ALL proceeds go to the Fernwood Foundation which supports women living with anxiety and depression? And so what did I do on Saturday morning? ? I had a cry. ? I decided on some changes I can make at home, in life, and in my business. ? I scheduled in time at the gym for Monday and booked in a session with my amazing PT for yesterday. ? Fake tanned. ? Got on with my day.

As single parents, we must MUST prioritize our mental health. What do you do to maintain your mental health? ?(PS if you want to get a 10-day trial pass for $10, you can do so via the link in my bio)?

10. Raise money for women with anxiety and depression.

Buy a $10 Fernwood trial pass this November and all proceeds go to supporting women with anxiety and depression. Say what? Yes, you read that right. This November, you get to not only trial everything Fernwood has to offer, but it’s only $10 for 10 days. AND… all the money – yes, 100% of it – goes to the Fernwood Foundation which provides support for women with anxiety and depression.

The Fernwood Foundation is very passionate about the mental well-being of all Australian women. They believe strongly in helping women reach their full potential, supporting them through the normal stresses of life, and making them feel like a valued member of their community.

For nearly 30 years, Fernwood has been providing a safe and nurturing environment to empower women to become healthier – both inside and out. And if being able to support the mental well-being of Australian women is achieved by simply joining Fernwood. I say – give it a go!
